Names are very powerful in the Catholic church and more so for the saints because each of the saints have a name with a great meaning. The question is what do these names mean and why are they so vital in the church. Listed below are three popular names that have been mentioned many times with Catholics. Almost any Catholic knows about these saints but they might not know what the name means.

Here are a few Saints with their meanings.

1. Saint Adrians: You’ll find that there are around ten Saint Adrians mentioned. One of them is Adrian of Nicomedia, served in the royal courts as a bodyguard and was pagan. He was very encouraged plus impressed with the Christian faith that he was converted. This name means wealthy, brave, and great.

2. Saint Christopher: A lot of Catholics always remember this saint because of him carrying and helping Baby Jesus to go over the waters that had been flooded and reach safety. This name means Christ-Bearer.

3. Saint Brigid: This one was from the Emerald Isle and born into royalty. She refused marriage and is considered the patron saint of Ireland with many things such as: poets, midwives, sailors, milk maids, and so on. This name means the gift of humor.

This is just a very short list of the saints that will always be remembered and thought of. They continue to live on today because of their incredible stories and the walk of faith each one of them had. Many women name their babies after the saints to show their dedication and faith. Plus it helps the baby to remind them of their faith and as they grow up they’ll always be encouraged when they read about the saint they are named after and hopefully will do the right thing.

It is a well known fact that there are Catholic Saints for each day of the year. Different saints are associated to each day of March, too. The history, facts and life events linked of all of these saints are different, interesting and admirable, as well. Actually, all these individuals led the lives of saints to receive such a gratitude from the Catholic Church.

March is considered to be the Month of St. Joseph. Saint Joseph is the husband of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Together with the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus, St. Joseph is considered to be a member of the Holy Family. In 1870, Saint Joseph was proclaimed the patron of the Universal Church by Pope Pius IX. March 19 is Saint Joseph’s Day, but since this is one of the most important Saints in Western Christianity, the entire month of March is considered to be the month of Saint Joseph.

The Most Interesting Catholic Saints and Patrons

Filed under: Catholic Saints and Patrons - 12 Jun 2012  | Spread the word !

[Facebook] [Twitter]

In the Catholic religion, there are more than 10.000 Catholic saints. Among the Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox Communions, the numbers may be even higher, since there is no fixed process of canonisation and each individual jurisdiction within the two Orthodox communions independently maintains parallel lists of saints that have only partial overlap.  There is a Catholic Saint for practically each day of the year and these are referred to as the Feast Days. What is the origin and meaning of Feast Days? Most saints have specially designated feast days which are associated with a specific day of the year and these are referred to as the saint’s feast day. The Catholic Saint’s feast days first arose from the very early Christian custom of the annual commemoration of martyrs on the dates of their deaths,at the same time celebrating their birth into heaven.

In fact, Catholic saints are individuals who have been canonized by the Catholic Church and this way recognized for their life achievements when it comes to making the work of God. Catholic saints are believed to be living in Heaven, even though they have been humans for as long as they have been alive. Naturally, they were only canonized as Saints the moment when they passed away.

Nowadays, there are hundreds of Catholic saints, recognized by the Catholic Church. They became Catholic saints after an examination made by the Church, which offered them this recognition. However, the process takes years. The first step is the beatification, which actually is an official declaration claiming that an individual is almost near sainthood.
